MIGHTY FIELD OF VISION

ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Mission:

Mighty Field of Vision provides resources and education to promote independent music as well as to provide social and financial support to indigent and disabled musicians.

Mighty Field of Vision is dedicated to the following:

1.      We will come together regularly to create artistic endeavors;

2.      We will seek out and extend a helping hand to fellow musicians, artists and others in need of social and financial assistance;

3.      We will create an environment of peace and understanding where fellow musicians, artists and others can come to find comfort and support; and

4.      We will educate the public about music and promote independent musical works of art in all genres.

Activities and Operational Information:

Goal 1

Mighty Field of Vision has as a goal the education of the public concerning independent music of all genres.  This includes providing resources and education for unsigned artists in regards to performance, recording, production, and professional contacts; a children’s music education program; public performances (including radio and live performances); etc.

Goal 2

Another goal of Mighty Field of Vision is to provide needed social and financial assistance to struggling independent artists including those who are indigent and disabled.

Independent music (also called “indie music”) refers to music of all genres performed by unsigned musicians.

Despite recent internet distribution capability, independent musicians still face their oldest problem: How to get noticed in a market where potential listeners now have millions of songs at their internet browsing fingertips.  Internet radio stations can provide some exposure and can be closely watched by big labels and broadcast radio stations.

Education and exposure are the key elements to success in the music industry.  Mighty Field of Vision is there to level the playing field for the independent musician.

Mighty Field of Vision was founded in 1984 by John D. Wyker, III, as a means of providing support and encouragement to musicians and others who love music.  Included in its membership are some of the world’s best musicians with years of experience in the music industry.  Mighty Field of Vision which was formally chartered in 2005, heralds from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, known for its numerous hit recording studios.  Lead by its Board of Directors, Mighty Field of Vision, strives to offer all persons the opportunity to live a full, rich life without feeling ostracized from humanity simply because of his/her choice of artistic expression.

Mighty Field of Vision has developed an educational web site which provides background information, photos, artwork and downloadable music from group members and other independent musicians.  The web site, www.mightyfieldofvision.com, allows a great number of people access to information about indie music. No fees are collected for this service.  The site offers cross-referenced hyperlinks to other archival sites and other materials which broaden the scope and depth of the information provided on the Mighty Field of Vision site. The broader goal of general appreciation for and promotion of, indie music is enhanced by this effort.  Both musicians and the general public can find in-depth information on this site.

Mighty Field of Vision also produces a public web radio program of indie music not heard on mainstream radio.  The radio program provides the public a program dedicated to the understanding and promotion of indie music.  Mighty Field of Vision Web Radio broadcasts worldwide 24 hours a day, seven days per week.  Thus, the awareness of, and appreciation for, indie music is enhanced.  The Mighty Field of Vision Web Radio operates solely from private donations by individuals and corporations.  The Mighty Field of Vision Web Radio link is available on the Mighty Field of Vision web site.

A key factor in the formation of the Mighty Field of Vision was to provide financial, emotional and social support to musicians in need.  Mighty Field of Vision provides basic assistance to indigent and disabled musicians and their families in the means of shelter, food, and medical services.  Applications for assistance are reviewed by the Mighty Field of Vision board and are awarded based on merit, need and available funds.

Johnny Wyker is the man responsible. He's a legendary songwriter/performer-turned producer from my hometown of Decatur, Alabama who was kind enough to listen to a few songs I had written a couple of years ago. He heard some things he liked and some things he knew he could help me with, so we went into a studio outside Decatur called Birdland www.birdlandstudios.com and put some songs down. It grew from there into the first record, I Will Not Look Like Them. He put together a band like you wouldn't believe to back me up. I didn't think we could get a better group until I saw who he had in store for Alabama Day! It's all the same guys from the first album with some additions including Spooner Oldham and Kelvin Holly. The thing is that Wyker knows EVERYBODY in the Southern Soul/Muscle Shoals world, which is almost the whole world of music as far as I'm concerned. And everybody knows and loves Wyker enough to show up when he says he's got something good happening.
